Academic Associates PeaceWorks has recently started a project focused on building collaboration between citizens and security agencies in Ughelli North LG of Delta State. This is to curb the menace of cultism in the LGA. The project is being implemented with funding support from Nigerian Stability and Reconciliation Programme (NSRP).

The project is aimed at achieving the following results:
• Improve the relationship and foster cooperation between security agents and the citizens
• Reduce the rate of cult related violence in Ughelli North LGA.

The scope of the project includes all communities in Ughelli North LGA of Delta State. This LGA has been chosen because of the high level of violent conflicts in the area within the last four years, most of which have been attributed to cultism and militancy.

Activities planned for the project include: Baseline study; establishment of a Community Stakeholders Network (CSN) that will meet fortnightly; one Town Hall Meeting in each quarter of the year; Social Media campaign; advocacy activities; and sensitization meetings with the identified stakeholders in the LG including women, men, youths and youth at risk, heads of secondary and primary schools, LG Council executives, and the leaders of the various groups.
